Our collaborative piece incorporates a variety of mediums in order to convey how the wool industry ties into our wider environment and society. We created a blue to black gradient and painted countries covered in wool and other related crops, to emphasise the destruction of the environment caused by climate change. To tie this idea back to the wool industry, we experimented with yarn by hand making pom poms for the base and scripting an inspirational speech from Greta Thunberg onto dyed fabric. The main purpose of our artwork is to convey how negative impacts of climate change affect the wool industry and environment, creating a sense of urgency for us youth especially, to advocate for change. Whilst artmaking onto a 3D bull base was something new for us, it allowed us the freedom to express our ideas on a larger and more complex surface than simply paper or a canvas. Since we all have different histories with art, we were able to bring all our drastic & unique ideas together to create this piece. Throughout this process, we all learnt and taught each other a lot about environmental issues as well as displaying this concept onto the bull.
