The hard work of farmers is often overlooked, considering just how vital they are to having healthy communities throughout our nation. All types of farming are crucial to our nation’s well-being, but BGHS believes that our allocated industry, the wool industry, is one of the most important. Not only is the wool industry beneficial to our nation’s economy, being one of Australia’s largest and most profitable exports, but it is also responsible for producing various high quality products to clothe many Australians. Wool clothing is known for being breathable (can be worn in warm or cold temperatures), durable, extremely comfortable and flexible (can be made into various products- our young farmer Samantha Wan even showed us a waterproof jacket entirely made of wool). The Australian wool industry is absolutely integral to clothing our country and clothes thousands of people across not only our nation, but the entire world.
Whilst our school offers a variety of delicious foods for our student population, we seriously lack vegetarian and vegan options that could majorly improve our school canteen’s carbon footprint, and there is a huge use of single-use plastic, although we are working on minimising it. By increasing the amount of environmentally friendly food and packaging options, our school could easily reduce its impact on the environment and therefore promote a healthier community schoolwide.
